Patagonia – Santiago - Atacama

Day 1: Santiago – Punta Arenas – Patagonia (D) (2009 April 30, May 7, 14, 21 start dates only)

Arrival in Santiago Chile and connect with your flight south to Punta Arenas. After the four hour flight, reception and transfer through beautiful Patagonia. En route you shall see vast sheep and cattle herds grazing in endless farms, wild birds, geese, caiquenes and ñandues, the South American Ostrich.

Arrival to your hotel, a boutique residence overlooking the beautiful Seno de Ultima Esperanza Bay.

Accommodation in a bay view room.

With 72 spacious double rooms, 32m2 each, including private bathroom, the hotel offers a movie theatre, a bar and restaurant, a Spa complete with a Finnish sauna, heated swimming pool (27C), open-air jacuzzi, and massage facilities in a specially conditioned room. Also available are lectures on Patagonian nature and culture and outdoor bonfires.

The food has also been specially thought out for both open-air activities and for hotel life.

There is special emphasis on local fresh produce, small-scale fishing, local farmers’ produce, including ripe and delicious fruit according to the season, all combined with excellent Chilean wine. This will be your base for exploration for the next few days. Before dinner, the excursions are organized at the bar where visitors can meet guides and plan their activities, depending on the weather; and select their best options for the following days.

Each group is made up of a maximum of eight people, travelling by foot or private car with a permanent guide. With fourteen different tours within a world reserve featuring outstanding beauty and culture, options include Torres del Paine National Park, mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, forests, cattle farms in vast prairies and lands of ancestral native cultures. As Remota is located in the centre of Chilean Patagonia, this allows all guests to take part in a multitude of attractions in this UNESCO biosphere.

Day 4:  Puerto Natales – Punta Arenas - Santiago (B)

After breakfast, transfer to  Punta Arenas airport for your return flight to Santiago. Arrival and transfer to your hotel, the Fundador.  Free evening.

Day 5: Santiago – Calama – Atacama Desert (B & D)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Calama. Arrival and transfer to your hotel, the Tierra Atacama. Accommodation in a volcano view room.

Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa is ideally located to admire the beauty of the Altiplano and the Atacama Desert. After a day of hiking, biking, walking or four wheel touring, guests will enjoy delicious meals and the luxury of a fabulous Spa.

The Uma Spa includes an outdoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi and an indoor heated pool. The Uma steam room or Turkish bath is fabulous after a day in the dry air of the desert, aiding tired muscles and stiff joints. The tranquil rooms for massages, facials and body treatments are all quiet and inviting.

All of Tierra Atacama’s rooms have private terraces with casually elegant and neo-minimal style rooms.

All rooms are equipped with private bathroom, wireless internet connections, central heating, safe, hair drier and telephone.  

Cuisine at the Tierra Atacama has not been ignored and incorporates fresh ingredients of the area, such as quinoa, Andean potatoes and fresh herbs. With high quality beef and Chilean lamb, fresh fish and seafood, and seasonal fruits and vegetables from the garden, meals will feature traditional Chilean and Andean dishes, which tend to be light and healthy. All meals are accompanied by fine Chilean wine.

With a wide choice of excursions from 4X4 touring to volcano ascents, walking biking, hiking and wildlife tours to choose from, each day is planned in advance and involves guided trips in small groups.
